Spine & Neurosurgery
Turn to our expert neurosurgery team when you need highly specialised procedures for the brain, spine and nerves. You receive complete care from a dedicated team before, during and after surgery. We help you get back to your life.
Neurosurgery and spine surgery are surgical procedures of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and spinal column. They are some of the most complex and intricate procedures in medicine. Our neurosurgeons are highly skilled and experienced in the most advanced surgical techniques.
Our team diagnoses, treats and manages your symptoms to restore or improve your quality of life. We use the latest technology and techniques, including minimally invasive procedures, for neurosurgery and spine surgery.
About half of brain and nerve surgeries are performed on the spine, and the surgeons of Ebnesina Hospital are well trained in this area. Some of the disorders that are treated in this clinic include neck, chest and lumbar disc diseases, spine tumors, spinal cord tumors, fractures, etc.
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Ebnesina Hospital offers minimally invasive surgical methods for the treatment of intervertebral disc such as lumbar disc laser, discogen injection, ozone therapy, etc.
Lumbar disc laser
If you suffer from severe neck or back pain caused by a herniated disc, you can undergo a lumbar disc laser surgery (laser discectomy) at the specialist neurosurgery and spine surgery clinic of Ebnesina Hospital in the shortest time and without incision relieve your pain only by applying local anesthesia.
During this operation, a small part of the disc is burned and vaporized using a laser beam, and then the pressure is removed from the nerve branches. This operation is performed on an outpatient basis and patients can be discharged from the hospital and return home immediately after this operation. This operation does not require hospitalization and a long recovery period, and its cost is significantly lower than open back surgery.
How does laser disc surgery work?
Laser disc surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and mild sedation without the need for a skin incision. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes, and the patient can mobilise shortly after the procedure and return to work on the following day.
A needle is inserted into the affected disc using X-ray in the operating theatre. A sophisticated laser probe is then inserted through the needle and laser tip is positioned into the soft part of the disc. The laser probe delivers energy into the disc and vaporises a small portion of the disc. The remaining disc then shrinks into the cavity created by the laser probe thereby reducing pressure on nerves or spinal cord.
Oxygen-ozone injection is one of the treatment methods used to treat some back problems, including arthritis and disc protrusion. This is used when other treatment methods have not been successful and it is necessary to postpone the time of performing the operation or it is not possible to perform the operation. Ozone therapy (oxygen therapy) is a non-invasive method that is simple to perform on an outpatient basis.
Discogel injection is a new method in lumbar disc treatment that has recently been used. In this method, the beneficial properties of absolute ethanol are used to treat lumbar disc pain. Discogel is actually a combination of alcohol, cellulose and tungsten, which is in the form of a gel.
How discogel is injected
In this method, the lumbar disc is pierced under the guidance of C-Arm fluoroscopy and using a spinal needle, then the doctor can easily access the nucleus of the disc using a smooth, flexible and very thin needle and injects discogel.
The amount of discogel injected into each intervertebral disc varies from 0.5 to 0.8 ml. After the treatment, the patient is asked to lie on his back on the bed and rest in the same position for two hours. After returning from the clinic, the patient can gradually resume his daily work and physical activities.
